About Stephen

Stephen worked as an Investment Banker in Johannesburg, South Africa before spending several years in London as he continued his career. In 2011, he and his wife decided to travel home to South Africa to start the next phase of their life. Whilst his wife travelled by plane back to South Africa, Stephen undertook the trip of a lifetime by motorbike from London to Johannesburg. During this epic adventure, Stephen and two other men were abducted by Al Qaeda militants in Timbuktu and then held hostage in the Sahara Desert for 6 years.

As years passed on, hopes diminished of his safe return to his family in South Africa. However, with an incredible amount of mental resolve and self belief, Stephen went to extraordinary lengths and against all odds to survive this unimaginable ordeal. In 2017, Stephen was released and now tells his story about overcoming this most terrifying and challenging situation.
